Son of lifelong Durand residents Ellis Bowler and Isabelle King Bowler, Thomas William Bowler passed away peacefully in his sleep last Wednesday, November 7th , just outside of his hometown of Durand Michigan. Tom was the loving (yet protective!) brother of Jane Margaret Bowler and the proud father of Michael William Bowler, Elizabeth Jane Bowler Bond, and Jeffrey Joseph Bowler. He was also, and most importantly to his heart, he was the caring grandfather to seven grandchildren: Nicholas, Amanda, Carolyn, Ellis, Robert, Kyle, and Jeffery.

Born here in Durand in 1936, Tom grew up in the local public school system working on his saxophone skills while earning several varsity letters for football and golf playing for the Railroaders. After later attending St. Aquinas College, Tom started a very successful career in sales representing Hershey, Warner Lambert, and Kraft to name a few. Once a family was started, his career took him to Jacksonville Florida where the children were raised. It was only supposed to be for a couple of years, but times were good – he could sell anything!

In his middle years Tom was the loving partner of Nancy Lewitt of Jacksonville. Since her passing several years ago, Tom often spoke of his dreams to be holding her again in heaven. Dreams do come true, and other than his return to home here to Durand, Tom is now where he has longed to be.

Tom mastered the art of making friends with strangers and helping out anyone with a free hand or a few bucks – bucks that he may have needed himself, but would rather give to others. Tom will be missed greatly by those fortunate enough to have crossed his path. His was his simple life, one of binding friendship, and true love and devotion to those around him. We all would be remise if we did not use those principals of his to help guide us all though our own daily lives.

Mass of the Christian burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, November 12, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Durand. Rev. Fr. Denis Spitzley will be officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you feel free to make a donation to St. Mary’s church in Durand, or a good cause or charity of your own choosing – as he often did himself. Online condolences may be sent at www.watkinsfuneralhomes.com
